Just the other day I went out for the day with a lot of friends.
40 of ‘em.
We began the day with indoor rock climbing and then went
kayaking to an island near one friend’s house.
Rock climbing was lots of fun! I don’t have much upper body
strength, so it was sometimes difficult to pull myself up the walls, but I
still managed to climb lots and I enjoyed watching the others who were slightly
more talented.
By the time we packed up to drive over to the water,
everyone’s arms and legs were good and tired. Then we realized that we’d have
to kayak up river for about 45 minutes to get to the island…
Once at the island we were all completely sore. Pathetic, I know. :P

Now there are lots of sandbars in the river, and we had to
drag our kayaks for quite a ways to get to the place where we would rest, eat
lunch, and have a good time. My friends and I happened to be the last of the
kayaks landing (as we had a slight mishap with someone falling in the water…)
and I was surprised to see a group of guys come running along the sand towards
us once we arrived.
“Can we take your kayaks?” They asked.
Wait, what?
Our kayaks, along with a double kayak two other girls were
struggling with, were soon hijacked by these boys and brought over to our camp.
While it only took them a max of five minutes to help us
out, they gave up swimming and riding the Tarzan rope swing to come and help.
But wait, it gets better still.
After we left the island and paddled back towards land, we
all beached on shore and began to carry our kayaks up roughly 20 stairs to the
house where we were to drop off our kayaks, this same group of guys offered to
carry our kayaks. They each did countless runs of carrying kayaks and supplies
up the stairs, running back quickly to see how to help again.
Now get this,
There were 40 of us friends out that day,
Approximately 50/50 guys and gals,
So 20 girls and 20 boys.
And there were only four guys helping who knows how many
girls.
Where, might you ask, were the other 16 boys off to when the last
girl and her kayak were helped up the stairs?
Oh, they were off, being boys, not gentlemen.
Where, oh where, have the gentlemen gone?
