This was our first Christmas in Prince George and just as I was starting to feel homesick and sorry about it we were invited to a church family's house on the 24th for singing Christmas carols and an appetizer dinner which was very familiar and homely.
Someone else who was there commented on how much they love visiting this family because it feels like their childhood home, and I agree. It's a comfortable atmosphere, easy conversation, toys to watch your step around, and children every-which-way.
And it was a joyful place to spend an 'away from home' Christmas Eve.
This cat basking in the lamp light behind the sofa didn't remind me of my childhood home (no cats for me growing up) but was pretty cute
We enjoyed a cozy variation of the Nine Lessons and Carols which is a UK Christmas Eve service. James wasn't a fan of the accompaniment and was often holding his ears closed to quiet the violins and guitar.
I had to get a ham going for our church potluck on Christmas Day and for the first time was faced with a ham taller than my crock pot. I ended up having to cut the ham before setting it in the crock pot and in the end it all worked out fine.
Our little Christmas tree makes a cozy little corner. Delilah thought it was so silly that these presents were wrapped and labeled 'from Santa'.
"We all know what they are and who they are from! But we have to wait until Christmas to open them! It's almost hilarious, Mom!" she'd say, leaning moreso towards exasperated, depending on how many times in a day she would feel the need to comment on it.
We read the Christmas story, sang some songs, and opened gifts in the evening on Christmas Day.
Mozzy was the first of our family to open his gift, so he could be quickly excused afterwards to do more exciting things for a cat, like take a nap.
Such an animated face!
We gave Clara her presents to chew on but she didn't get very far.
All getting in close to see Dad teach Delilah how to use her new timer
After unwrapping two chocolate letters each at Christmas I was glad we already finished eating the first set we received the week before. Three letters for everyone is a lot to eat!
Merry Christmas to you all!
If you requested a Christmas photo card from us (close family is getting one automatically) , it should hopefully be getting to you soon as Canada Post works through the backlog acquired during their strike.
