Remembrance Day

On Monday we went to a remembrance day parade.
Matthew and a bunch of other WofO students got to be flag bearers.
Matt was rather upset that he had a Canada flag, and it was a small one...
but I think he got over that and he was real proud to be a part of it

Now this ceremony.....
as I mentioned before, it was the worst one I've ever been to.
Why?
To start off, they had these bleachers set up for people to sit down,
but then all the people in the above picture stood in front of the bleachers
so the people in the front row couldn't see any thing.
So they stood up.
Then they blocked the 2nd and 3rd row people's views,
so then they stood up.
And so on.....

Another thing:
The MC lady was a complete ditz.
She was like seventy years old, not that that's a bad thing,
but little old ladies are not supposed to be ditzes
-that's what the younger generation is for.
While we were laying wreaths - a serious, solemn event
and the jets fly past and this lady says,
"Hey every body, lets wave to the smokies! You sure can see a lot from up in the sky!"

Of course they're beautiful planes
but,
Ugg!
So disrespectful!
k, so then one of the other speakers started her speech by telling us about a dream she had last night where she was at the cenotaph and there was a big bouncy castle and people selling cotton candy...etc
After recounting the dream she told us how her mother always loved the war,
and told stories about how great it was because she was a nurse working with men all day.
And the speaker shared with us how her mother went AWOL for 5 days with one of the soldiers, the man who later became her father.

At this point I decided this was the worst ceremony ever.
The best thing that speaker lady said was,
"We hope for the day when our children will ask us, 'what's a war?' and we will tell them."

But I was thinking to myself,
'what is this lady gonna tell her grandkids?'
cuz it seems that the only thing she knows is that war is a great time to hook up with some hot solider for a week.

K,
so that's my rant for this week....

After the ceremony there was food and we ate lunch there, at the community hall.
And then drove to the cemetery to put our poppies on Opa's grave.
Then we went off to visit Oma, and after that we dropped Dad off at a meeting
So then we had to find something to do for an hour and a half until it was time to pick him up.

So we drove around,
every where.
We drove past Uncle Riemer's house,
and past great-grandpa Faber's old farm.
And then we drove through some rock quarries,
and along the American-Canadian border.

Then we stopped (after quite a few interesting attempts ) at the old Aldergrove Bowl
We haven't been there since they filled in the lake,
and it was kinda surprising to see it all flat.

When we pulled up, it smelt like there was a sewage problem of some sort,
and since we partly came hear to use the washrooms,
I was sent to investigate and see if they were usable.

On my way over to the washrooms I noticed something rather disgusting,
but, after seeing the washrooms usable, I went back to the van and Eth asked me,
"So, are the walls like, covered in sh*t?"
and I truthfully and honestly replied,
"Yup."

But of course no one believed me, so they went over to check it out
and here's what they saw:

It was a student project (don't ask ) and there was an outline painted on the outer wall
and the outline was filled in with manure of some kind
it was real gross and revolting....

Any how,
after that we went to pick up Dad
and then went home,
had dinner,
and then Grandma and Grandpa came over for Nadia's birthday (which was on Tuesday)
and I'll get more pictures about that (and Ethan's birthday) up later....

G'night!
