Smithers Day Five - Homeward Bound!

We enjoyed our sleep on Tuesday morning and got up at 6:30 before starting our trek back home.
Over the course of the weekend we looked into tons of different ways to try to get home.
Many roads were closing or re-opening due to the forest fires and things were constantly changing.
We decided to stick with Highway 16 which hadn't been closed yet and just hope and pray for the best.

The smoke we drove through thankfully wasn't as bad as what others experienced on Highway 1 or 97 before those roads closed.

You can't really see it, but there are mountains off in the horizon there.

Highway 5 was still open!!!!

You can sorta see those mountain outlines there.

Somewhere along the way our ears were graced with the song Hocus Pocus by a group called Focus. It's apparently the only rock song which has yodeling incorporated into it.
If you have 6 minutes to waste maybe listen to it.... Or at least skip through to some highlights.
2:25 and 3:25 are some good spots. :P

Through Little Fort was the first of some actual fires we saw.
These fires had been much lager earlier but they were close to being out when we drove past.

No good pictures, of course, but the Thompson River ran along the highway and separated the fires from the road.

We stopped in Clearwater for dinner and to breath fresh air in an air conditioned building.
😛

Along the Coquihalla everything had an orange-green tinge to it

Very eerie from previous fires that have gone through.

Holding our breaths going through the Snowshed!
We're almost home!!!

Made it home just after 10pm that night!
Not too bad considering it all!
