Smithers Day One - Road Tripping

On Friday, July 7th at 4:45am Will and I hit the road on our way to Smithers for Esther and Caleb's wedding.

We stopped in Hope for a quick breakfast.

As we passed through 150 Mile House there was quite alot of haze and smoke from the forest fires at 100 Mile House and William's Lake. We had to close our windows because the air was hard to breathe but as we don't have air conditioning the car got very stuffy very fast.

We stopped in William's Lake and were amazed to see the gas prices there!

The smoke wasn't too bad in William's Lake

Then we were even more surprised to see the gas prices in Prince George!!!

It was getting close to 2 o'clock so we took about a 30-45min break and had a picnic lunch on a rock at the gas station.

There was a fair about of construction between Vanderhoof and Telkwa and sometime in there we had a semi pull in front of us and debris from the road kicked up and hit our windshield...

As we waited for the construction traffic to pass we heard that the fires were getting worse and that Cache Creek was evacuated and the hospital in Ashcroft was closed. 2 hangers at the airport burnt down and they decided to close the highway.
William's Lake was on evacuation alert and 100 Mile House as well.
The highway that Will and I drove through 2 hours earlier!
We were very thankful we made the decision to leave so early in the morning and that we were able to safely travel those roads before conditions got worse.

We were about 2 and a half hours away from Smithers, near Fort Fraser when it started to lighting and thunder. Around the same time Will pulled over on a side road and said that one of the tires was pulling funny and he wanted to check it out.

Well, check it out;

Flat.

So we put on our also-flat spare with the lighting flashing and thunder shaking the ground and drove extremely slow 2km to the nearest gas station where we could fill up the spare.

We didn't have a pressure gauge and the gas station didn't either so we continued driving 50km/hr until Burns Lake where we could fill the tire properly.

The lighting started even more forest fires and I can't remember the number now, but there were over 200 on Friday and Highways 1, 97c, and 5a were closed.

Very tired as we've been up since 4.
That's a lie, Will was up since 4, I got up at 4:12 and he also let me nap sometime that afternoon for a little bit.
Also, I had an eye infection...

Around 8pm we made it to our new home-away-from-home.

We had tacos for dinner with Uncle Conrad who kindly waited for us. We stayed up that night talking
