Will and I Went to Alberta!

On Saturday August 19 Will, his brother Chris, and I packed all our camping gear into Will's Honda Civic and headed NorthEast to attend a Vanspronsen family reunion in Alberta.

Of course we started the trip off with a stop at Timmies
☕😃

We met up with Will's parents in Clearwater and stayed there Saturday and Sunday night.

Sunday afternoon we went and checked out the three iconic waterfalls of Wells Grey Park

The first we saw was Spahats Creek Falls

Then Dawson Falls

We could actually hike up to the top of these falls.

There were no fences or anything - I was scared to fall in!

Lastly we stopped by Helmcken Falls

The viewing platform had huuuuuggggeeee gaps between the boards!

That evening Will and I went for a walk along the North Thompson River.
(See the fisherman?)

He found and gave me a rock that was shaped like a heart!
Sadly I forgot to take it home with me... 😢

Taking a 'Normal' photo

A little better I think. 😝

Monday morning we packed up to travel to Gregg Lake, just North of Hinton, Alberta.
This was the day of the all famous eclipse. We stopped at a Tim Hortons (no surprise there) to see if we could view it at all. We were a view minutes late and since we had no viewing gear we didn't have that great of an experience.

Mt. Robson for lunch break. Too bad it was clouded over...

That night, once at our campsite but before we set up, we headed out to Jarvis Lake with Will's cousin Kees to go water skiing. I got to be the spotter and photographer which meant I stayed nice and dry while the guys swam in the 15℃ water.

Tuesday I had a quiet day at our campsite while some of the other uncles took a few cousins on a boating adventure through a network of creeks that flow through the William A. Switzer Provincial Park.

On Wednesday Will and I went for a lunch date in Hinton to Timmies of course.

That afternoon we all headed to Jarvis Lake for swimming and some more water skiing.

We had some sand sculpting fun

I just wanted to dig a hole and manged to recruit some younger cousins who shared in that dream

We all came together that evening for a pie dessert in celebration of Grandma and Grandpa Vanspronsen's 50th wedding anniversary.

And I was introduced to bannock that night - a Vanspronsen family camping tradition.

Will had brought his slackline along and we helped a lot of curious cousins and uncles to balance and walk the line.

By the end of it just two girls were able to take any steps but lots of them were able to stand pretty well!

Since Wednesday was a late night, Thursday morning was slow to start. By the time we were up and fed it started to pooooouuuuurrrrrr rain. We had been anticipating a thunderstorm on Wednesday night and figured it ended up coming late. Thankfully Will's parents had a trailer and we stuck out in there while the rain and winds came through.
The moment it stopped Will, Chris, and Kees headed out to the lake to get another ski in.

The outside temperature was 10℃ while the water was 16℃!
To warm up they popped the engine cover on the boat up and placed their hands and feet on it.

Little Carly wanted to lie in Will's hammock and promptly fell asleep!
So precious! 😊

That night the guys played around with a laser pointer and long exposure on a camera.
They call this one, 'Splat'

Friday morning we packed up and began the 9hr trek home.

Could almost see the top of Mt. Robson this time.

Will and I had driven through here just a month ago on our way home from Smithers when everything was blanketed in smoke.
It was nice to have sunny blue skies this time!

And that's all!
