A Short Story: Make Way For Ducklings

While driving home from Will's parents house on Saturday I spotted a group of ducklings, huddled in the shade along the side of the road.
Will didn't even notice them, as they blended in with the shady road quite well. And rather than simply driving around them Will insisted that he herd these duckies out of the path of other vehicles.

But they were insistent on walking up the hill, rather than being frightened into the grass or trees.

So we followed them with the car for a kilometre, shielding them from passing traffic, and speeding up ever so slightly until they were running. Then eventually, one by one, they took off into the air.
