Camping 2021

Our family camping trip this summer ended up looking different than we had anticipated. We had planned to go to Lac Le Jeune for six nights but the night before we were scheduled to leave Will and I made the hard decision to cancel our reservation and stay home. The days leading up to our holidays we were keeping an eye on the forest fires, which kept moving farther and farther away, but the smoke was still hanging around.
It was 9:30pm and we were weighing the cons if we were to go. Will had found a smoke cam online which overlooked the lake and showed it to me. It for sure looked hazy, but not too bad. And then I saw the time stamp. The photo we were looking at had been taken at 1pm! The middle of the day and the lighting seemed appropriate for late evening!
That was the final push for us to cancel our reservations. With two little kids and me being pregnant we just didn't feel comfortable exposing our lungs to all the smoke.

That same evening we were able to find spots available at the Vedder River and so booked that for three nights.

So on Monday we got all packed up and headed out on our fourth annual Will Vs family camping trip.

By that afternoon we were already down at the river, which is where we spent every afternoon!

William was so content to play with the rocks and I don't even think he ever went into the water past his knees. I was very grateful not to have to be paranoid about him trying to swim every other second.

Delilah and Oma playing games together in the trailer.

Our site had several ash pits from where fire rings had previously been. The kids loved playing in the dirt there, much to our frustration as they became so messy each time!

There was this fabulous walking trail just one site away from our campsite. I made great use of it each afternoon when taking William for a walk to get him to fall asleep for his nap.

One afternoon he fell asleep but he had been refusing slipping into slumber that hadn't wanted to lie down and so he eventually fell asleep leaning forward. 😆

The water was cold but it was so hot out in the sun that the cool water was very welcomed.

We headed back to our campsite too early one afternoon - it hadn't cooled off enough so we filled a bucket up with water for the kids to stay cool in.

Roasting marshmallows on our last night. Something Delilah was really looking forward to about camping!

Cozy morning snuggles

This little man was absolutely trouble just about the entire time we were at our campsite. He just wanted to go exploring, or visit other people's sites. A lot to keep up with, but he had a blast. 😄
