Celebrating Our Fifth Anniversary

This past weekend Will and I went away for a night to celebrate five years married and nine (NINE!) years together. Our anniversary isn't until the 16th, but this weekend worked the best for us to go away.

It was Will's turn to plan our trip and he picked Victoria as our destination.

It was so cold and windy on the ferry ride that there was hardly anyone else out on the deck with us.

We spotted this cute shop while we waited at an intersection.

Driving past the backside of the parliament building.

I mentioned to Will a while ago that I wanted to check out Breakwater Lighthouse next time we were in the Victoria area. And so that was the first place we went once we got off the ferry.

And it was a good thing we went on Friday rather than Saturday. Friday was windy and the water was so choppy and the waves on the breakwater were spectacular! If we had gone on Saturday, although it was sunny and warmer, the water was flat and wouldn't have been as exciting.

We were getting splashed with waves against the breakwater. So cool to see the mighty power of the ocean as it rolled in and crashed up towards us.

Does this help you see how windy it was?

I thought it was really neat to see all the different layers of paint on the lighthouse. In another area you could even see that at one point it was painted yellow.

Those mountains across the water are the USA

Then we went to check in at our bed and breakfast, a 110 year old manor!

Our room was in the old dining room.

After going out for dinner we walked along the water and then to the parliament building.

We slept so soundly (my first time sleeping through the night in over nine months!) and even got to sleep in

We headed across the foyer to the dinning room, for breakfast which is what used to be an adults-only parlour and music room.

They had a little telescope that Will and another guest were geeking over. 😜

After breakfast we packed up and got ready to leave.

We went to Fisherman's Warf as that's something else we haven't seen yet.

We took a little harbour ferry tour

And then walked around some more

Our parking was close to expiry and we wanted to check out the Butterfly Gardens yet, which was closing at 3, so we got back into the truck and headed off.

After seeing the Butterfly Gardens we had a bit of time before needing to catch the ferry so we stopped at a Tim Horton's for a late lunch and a game of UNO to pass the time.

Homeward bound!

We had such a fun and enjoyable time together. It really is a shift to all of a sudden have little to no responsibility. Very relaxing to get away for the night, but also cute how the whole time we kept commenting to each other, "Oh the kids would love _______(Whatever thing we were doing/seeing)!"

We're very thankful for my parents and Esther who were able to watch the kids for us and make it possible for us to have a kid-free weekend!
