Will's oma passed away at home on April 26th at the age of 96.
We are grateful that Will was able to go to Holland with his mom to attend the funeral and enjoy some time with his extended family there.
Waving goodbye when Uncle Ted picked up Will to bring him to the airport
Boarding the plane.
The kids thought it was silly Dad would be flying on a blue plane and they almost didn't believe him, so Will took a picture to show them.

Sunday visiting with family and an elder from church
Tuesday was the funeral
Will had the honour of being a pallbearer along with his cousins. I believe they had the oldest from each family carry the coffin, except for Uncle Henk's as his family is all in Canada.
All at home again after the funeral.
Will named this the grumpy cat and he often would send me pictures of him, or include him in our video calls.
Speaking of video calls, here's a screenshot of James checking in with Dad
On Wednesday Will went to see Muiderslot castle.
On Thursday Will and his mom went for a bike ride to town

Taking afternoon naps
Will went to his cousin's house for dinner with is family on Thursday and down the street from their house is an airport that was build by the Germans during the war.
They booked a tour to see Dom Tower which is next to St. Martin's Cathedral in Utrecht
Every 50 years the bell tower is restored, a process that takes 5 years to complete. Being this is 2023, they are on year 3 of the restoration project so there was scaffolding set up on the exterior of the tower.
There was a small group singing inside the church, but with the acoustics being so good the sound filled the entire building!
Around town
Fresh stroopwafel
They also went to a racing simulator arcade

Over the forest fires in Alberta
The kids and I went to Flight Path Park to watch Will's plane land
There it is coming in to land, just above the building to the left of centre oinf the photo.
It was very windy there but we all walked the flight path from Amsterdam to Vancouver which was fun.
Then we went into the airport where we had to wait 50 minutes for Will to get his luggage. Could have spent more time at the park, but we didn't know it would be such a wait and we really wanted to to be there when he got out. After about 30mins the kids started to lose their patience. I couldn't blame them though, I too was hungry, also needed to pee, and just wanted their daddy back. I'm sure lying on the floor in arrivals isn't recommended, but I let William and Delilah lie under the stroller because that's something they've never done before and it created a great pass time.
Any minute now!
And he was back!
I had told the kids they couldn't run to Dad when they saw him and we had to wait for him to come to us. Once they spotted him they so excitedly held hands and waited the forever feeling 10 seconds for him to make his way through the crowd towards them.
And he was welcomed home with such big hugs. So special.
We went to the Timmies down the road for dinner.
We've gone here a few times before and it's always our favourite because it's wayyy less busy than the restaurants at the airport.
Back at home we got to unpack all the Dutch goodies Will had bought for us
And a castle puzzle for the kids
