Weekend Getaway

This past weekend Will and I went away for our annual anniversary trip which we took a month early so we could also turn it into a hunting trip before the season for bear closed. We were gone for three nights which was the longest we've ever left the kids and that was a little sad for me, but they had lots of fun at their Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Will and I had such a great time road tripping together, listening to music, reading books, enjoying each other's company and also the comfortable silence.

The majority of these lakes we passed were iced over

This building caught my eye in a town we drove through

After a surprise rainstorm the trees were glowing with sunlight and I exclaimed to Will, "There has to be a rainbow around somewhere!" But sadly I couldn't find one. We drove for 20 more seconds or so and then there it was!

Delicious deep fried pickles

Driving deep into the woods on Friday evening we spotted a forest fire.

Will worked hard to get the van ready for us to sleep in. He built a bed, installed a heater, fan system, fridge, put in dimmable lights with switches by the bed, and we made curtains together.
The set up worked very well and we stayed nice and warm even when it was below zero outside.

We stopped one night to sleep at a lake and here was our view out the van window from our bed in the morning. A little obstructed by mud, but very peaceful

See the back window that Will wiped so we'd be able to look out?

Pan fried toaster waffles for a slower paced morning

It started raining while we ate breakfast so we were grateful for the awning we had

We went for a bit of a walk around the lake after breakfast

Celebrating 10 years together!

Off on a hunt
Will with his binoculars ready, me with the camera ready.

It was snowing off and on

Unfortunately we did not find any bears, or even any evidence of them.

We stopped to do some shooting

I learned how to throw clays

We had such a fun time together throwing and shooting

We tried to take a quick selfie with the fancy camera which does not have a selfie camera

That's better

Between the trees on the right you can spot the shell flying out of Will's gun

See that clay flying high? I felt like I got pretty decent at it by the end

Will set up a few for target practice

No table so a lawnchair sufficed

This little green plant stood out amidst all the muted oranges and browns.

This road was right along a lake

We didn't hunt on Sunday but enjoyed a restful morning and attending two worship services (one was Lord's Supper and the other a baptism) before jumping back in the van to drive home to our kiddos.

Stopping on the side of the road to make hot drinks for the last stretch of our drive.
