WWW: A Firetruck Drove Through Our Gate

Wednesday:
Will and I needed a brain break on Wednesday and so cancelled our original plans and went to IKEA for some family fun.
This was James' first time on an escalator and he was a little cautious at first but then loved it

Pretty proud of ourselves for leaving with only $10 worth of things, I think that's an all time low!

Thursday:
Rainy days aren't stopping us from playing outside.

Friday:
Our landlord's son got the burn pile going on Friday afternoon so Will and sidekick James went over to add some branches.

And a little over an hour later a fire truck showed up!
I was juust about to put the boys into bed but they ended up staying up for 40 minutes to watch all the excitement.
Someone saw the smoke from the road and called it in as a confirmed structural fire. Which meant when this engine came up to our gated driveway they blasted right through it and immediately got the truck attached by three houses to a tender parked on the road. (Not sure why the tender didn't follow them up the driveway since the gate was demolished already, but there's only one of the questions we have.)
And as they were so excitedly setting up they were met with a lacklustre pile of branches burning.

Which they were also obligated to put out.
There's a fireman standing behind the trailer here after he had just sprayed the fire which is why it's all white and steamy in this photo.

The gate had been pushed inside out and was resting on the ground and shrubs. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it in that state.
So the guys took it off and Will fixed it on Saturday

In case you were wondering, we did have a permit to burn and so did not get fined. And apparently there are no repercussions for the person who called in a false confirmed structural fire, even if that involves wasting time and the resources in sending multiple engines to a site and damaging someone's property.
But despite the frustrations we moved on...

Saturday:
And by Saturday afternoon we had a working gate again!

Delilah has started Gr 1 so we're back at our cozy tea times at the table to do schoolwork.

Esther and Ben came over on Saturday evening and brought this bubble gun for the kids.

Sunday:
Madilyn's handiwork

Even on his knees Ethan stands taller than Grandma B! They had a good chuckle about that.

And Delilah lost her first tooth!
On Wednesday she excitedly showed me it was wiggling, and all Sunday afternoon and evening she had been working hard on wiggling it. When we got home that night Will asked her if she wanted him to pull it (it could fully bend 90 degrees each way at this point and I was a little worried she'd swallow it in her sleep) and she agreed! It didn't take much work before that little tooth popped right out and she was just the happiest girly about it.

Monday:
More fun with the bubble gun
