Clara's First Birthday!

Our sweet baby girl woke up on her first birthday to find balloons in the living room and kitchen. As I carried her down the hall from the bedroom she noticed the balloons right away and was excited to run around to play with them.

And of course she had a card to open

We were at the church for cleaning in the morning and while we ate a snack outside she plunked herself under an apple tree. I found out back at home later that she had brought a tiny apple home with her!

We had bought icecream sandwiches as a fun treat for the kids and got to share them with the Schoutens too

I guess Clara understood that she's all grown up now and decided to start doing her own laundry? Unfortunately it was all the clean, folded clothes coming out of the drawers and going into the washing machine, but the thought was there.

Once Dad was home from work we carved out some family time to have Clara open her gifts

Delilah and William wrapped Clara's presents which they thought was really special.

The older kids were so patient and did a good job of letting Clara try to unwrap the gifts on her own.

We had to go out that evening so the birthday festivities got delayed but I thought it was cute to see Clara in her birthday dress sitting in a pile of sand.

The next evening we resumed the birthday celebrations with singing, candles, and cupcakes

Not quite sure what to make of it

She wasn't a fan of the cupcake, but had fun crumbling it!
