Christmas Tree Hunting

Last week we set out for a tromp through the forest to find ourselves a Christmas tree

It wasn't very cold and had just begun snowing

Will had been farther back in the forest and said he knew of the perfect spot to find a Christmas tree. So we followed him through areas of fallen trees and brush, travelling on the less-steep crossing of the ravine, through tall growth trees, and over the creek.

We spotted lots of animal prints in the fresh snow

In the above photo Delilah is pointing out these footprints- rabbits and grouse crossing over each other

And then we came to the top of a little mountain and, lo and behold, little Christmas trees everywhere!

Just look at them all!

Pretty Christmas tree-y in my opinion!

Going up a little higher to reach (what we're pretty sure is) the highest point on our property

That back there looks to me like a prospective picnic nook...

Back down to select a tree

Once we found The. One. each kid had a turn at sawing the trunk.

Can you make out the glee on James' face?!

And it was a good thing Clara was too little to care to participate as the little tree came down right as Delilah was having her turn to cut it....

...And it landed right on me as I was taking her picture!
That was funny for everyone, including me.

And then homeward bound were we.
Following, for the most part, our tracks from the trip into the woods.

Sweet Clara found the morning adventure and fresh air all rather exhausting and she fell right asleep on the walk home and stayed sleeping for quite some time.

We did have lunch before getting out the decorations and the children made short work of decorating the tree.

Even Clara got in on the action

It is so very cozy to have it lit up in the corner! :)
