Victoria Day Trip

This year for my birthday we went on a trip for the day to Victoria

We left the house at 6:30am to make it to the ferry on time so we left the kids in their pjs and ate breakfast once we got to the ferry terminal

Recently we bought the back bench for our van because it only came with two benches. Will hasn't fully hooked it up yet, but we had the bench in the back to crawl around and eat on.

Breakfast before boarding.

On the ferry watching as we kept hitting the huge bumpers while trying to stay docked.

Moving now!

The kids were pretty excited that there were two play areas on the ferry. Lots of fun for them

You can always tell when they're a little nervous/excited if they hold hands like this without any prompting.

Coming in to Swartz Bay

Our first stop was the Butterfly Gardens!
Will and I went here back in December and have wanted to take the kids since then.
This photo is of the ant display, they make the ants walk all the way along this vine from one side of the case to the other to get leaves and being them to their nest.

Checking on the scorpions - did you know they glow under UV light?

There were lots of butterflies breaking out of their chrysalises which was very interesting to watch.

Brand new butterflies drying their wings

This butterfly landed on me!

And another one!

After the butterfly gardens we went to a nearby neighbourhood playground for a picnic lunch, some celebratory cupcakes, and to run around for a bit.

James spotted a crow flying overhead. I so love his scrunchy face

Once we packed up our picnic we drove all the way down to Beacon Hill Park and went to the Children's Zoo there.

We saw muscovy ducks also when we went to the Greater Vancouver Zoo two weeks back and said then that they are such odd looking birds.

The call duck was Delilah's favourite with its cutesy white body and orange bill and feet.

Inside the goat pen

James loved to give them little headbutts

There were shelves of brushes available so you could give the goats a good back scratch.
This one is pregnant and due any day.

We came around this corner and were face to face with a peacock. He decided he didn't want to walk through our family and very cautiously turned himself around and quickly walked away.

Walking through the sundial garden

And inside the rose garden

Will was being silly with the kids and turned a different way than me down a path.

On our way back up North to catch our ferry

All three kids fell asleep on the drive

James woke up first and was as happy as could be to have a turn sitting in the driver's seat while we waited for the ferry.

Eating dinner in the back of the van. See Delilah mid-stretch? She had just woken up from her nap.

It's been a 12hr days for the kids so far and they were still smiling!

What a special way to spend a fun birthday with my favourite people 💛
